I had the pleasure of being coached by Ed Sinclair while at Millfield School from 2005 to 2009. My swimming improved dramatically whilst coached by Ed and he taught me an incredible amount during this time.

He was always very approachable and easy to talk to and had a good rapport with all of his swimmers, which I think is paramount to being a great coach. Ed is also a very enthusiastic coach and has a great sense of humor. He is a great leader and also a team player. He would always join in with us and race against us or on relays with the team whenever the opportunity arose.  In terms of being an effective leader, with his extensive experience and knowledge in swimming, everyone always looks up to and respects Ed. He knows exactly what it takes to get to the highest level as he has been there and done it.

Ed is a master in terms of swimming technique. Whilst swimming under his guidance, my strokes became far more efficient and technically sound. Ed would always give me specific drills during training and work with me one on one to help improve my stroke. He would analyze all of my races with me and figure out ways to make me faster. This helped to improve my personal best times at a substantial rate and took me from barely qualifying for nationals to breaking British age group records.

Not only does Ed have extensive skills as a coach in the water, but he is also an extremely knowledgably strength and dry land coach. Ed always ran all of our land based training, which helped to considerably improve my core-stability, mobility, flexibility and muscular endurance. When I reached the age to start increasing my strength Ed took the time to coach me one on one during my lunch break in the gym. With he extensive knowledge in swimming-related strength exercises and his proficiency in coaching perfect form during all exercises, this extra training helped take my swimming to another level.

Ed had a massive impact on my swimming career, and without him I would not be where I am today. His skills as a coach are undeniably some of the best that I have had the opportunity to work with and his enthusiasm as a coach means training under him always entertaining.
